Anna Maria Sunset

We were back at Bradenton Beach for the sunset and there were quite a few people enjoying the evening.

This guy was having pretty good luck with his throw net.

 

 

There were quite a few birds hanging around looking for a free meal.

 

 





There was one kite surfer taking advantage of the almost perfect conditions.



 

There were a lot of people walking the beach enjoying the sunset.

 

 

 

 

  

And then as the sun set the moon appeared as it was setting.

 

 





All in all a beautiful evening.

 

 



June 29 - After Tropical Storm Debby

Debby beat us up for about a week and today we found out just how bad.  The photos below are our favorite beach on Anna Maria Island. The beach with it's snow white powdery sand is gone. Also there were over a hundred Loggerhead turtle nests on the beaches, most of them were washed away. The experts are saying hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of sand was washed back into the gulf.

It will probably be many years before the beaches are what they once were

but life goes on, the sailors are still here and the dolphins and we will be here as much as possible.

From the description I found I think this is an immature dark morph Reddish Egret.



August 28, 2011 - Back to the Beach

We haven't been to Anna Maria Island for several weeks, so today we went out and got our beach fix. There was really rough surf and the strongest rip current I've ever experienced. We weren't able to spend much time in the water, so I spent most of the time taking pictures.

At the beach

This is Bradenton Beach on Anna Maria Island a really great beach, in the foreground is a turtle nest, in the background are the dunes and sea oats planted to help prevent beach errosion.

More shore birds, a variety of sandpiper I think.

There are always a variety of birds at the beach. The four pictured here are a common sight.
